3 special consideration embryos looking for loving home!
Hi, thank you for taking the time to find out more about me and the three embryos I have to donate!
I am a teacher and enjoy the arts (music, painting, crafts), gardening, baking, and spending time with my two teens (16 and 19) and our two dogs (a 9 year old poodle and 3 year old goldendoodle).
In 2017, after separating from my children’s father in 2013 and not finding a new partner who wanted more children, I decided to pursue growing my family on my own and did IVF using a sperm donor. The embryos were PGS tested in early 2020 (several retrievals in 2019). I now have a partner and two step-kids, as well as my two teens, and am hoping to find a match for the embryos I did not end up using, to help another IP or couple build their family! The embryos have been in storage now for five years and I am hoping to match quite quickly if I find the right IPs.
I am looking for a loving family (single IP or couple) to match with for three remaining embryos that have a special label (see below). Hoping for an open or semi-open relationship since this would be my preference–also, my children have been in the loop with this process and would hope to have contact with any genetic half-siblings some day. I grew up with half-siblings and step-siblings and know that family is what we create and that family ties are strong, no matter how they are built!
I have already donated two PGS tested euploid embryos from this batch. The IP couple is about to transfer in the next month or two! Very excited about this and am crossing my fingers for them. I have three remaining embryos that are hard to classify since the science about this type of embryo is evolving! I’ve classified them as ”special consideration” since I am hoping to find the right IP or IP couple willing to give them a chance. I would like to donate all three to the same family.
These three embryos are fairly good quality (BB) but are classified as ”chaotic”. Very recent research is showing that almost half of embryos with this label are actually euploid (PGS normal)!
I have just found out about a new test that would allow them to be retested without another PGS biopsy (so the embryos would be thawed for a few hours and kept at my clinic, with just the culture medium collected and sent for testing). I would definitely want to discuss this option with a potential recipient family. I am thinking of doing it at my expense this spring, just for reassurance and to have as much information as possible about the embryos.
Up until a year or two ago, clinics were telling patients to discard this type of embryo. I am so happy that I kept these stored and did not discard them five years ago.
If you would like to consider giving these embryos a chance, please let me know. They are stored at my fertility clinic in Montreal, Canada. The other IP couple is in the US and they decided to ship their donated embryos to their clinic but it might be possible to do a transfer here.
Looking forward to hearing from you! Crossing my fingers that these special consideration embryos will find their family soon.
Andrea
- Snapshot of my life and family:
Two teens from a previous marriage, two step-kids, a loving partner and two dogs!
- Fertility story:
Several IVF retrievals, banked and tested, leading to two PGS normal embryos in that batch (matched already) and these three special consideration embryos that have been in storage at my clinic for five years.
IVF done in my late 30s and early 40s, in 2017 to 2019: 14 embryos total: 2 PGS normal, 3 choatic, the rest abnormal (hoping to match here for the three chaotic embryos--nine abnormal embryos also available if a family wants to transfer several at a time and give them a chance, too--testing is much more accurate now than it was five or six years ago, so it is possible there are some mosaics in the batch as well). Good quality overall (mostly BB, some AB).
