Three genetically screened embryos available (all female)
We are thrilled to be raising two healthy children, both born from IVF. We have decided our family is complete, and would like to give someone else the opportunity to use our remaining embryos. Our embryos have been genetically screened as low-level mosaic (most of the cells are chromosomally normal, but a small number are not). Studies suggest that mosaics have almost as good odds of success as completely normal embryos, likely because the normal cells out-compete the abnormal cells). We would have been very willing to use them had we decided to go for a third child.
- Snapshot of my life and family:
We are an energetic bunch, intellectually, physically and socially. My husband and I are both professors, largely because we are naturally curious and love to learn new things all the time. We also love hiking, backpacking and being outdoors (though having kids has slowed us down a bit!) Our daughter is almost 7, son just turned 4; both were conceived through IVF, both are healthy and happy. We feel very lucky to have them in our lives!
- Fertility story:
We got married relatively late in life (I was 40, he was 47) so we went straight to IVF when we decided to have kids. I did multiple retrieval cycles when I was 42; one or two cycles should have been enough, but the clinic I was at had trouble getting the embryo transfer right (their protocol kept producing fluid in my uterus, and I lost two good embryos as a result of that). After two failed transfers I started to panic and did more retrievals (ended up doing 6 total, one was botched by the clinic) to make sure we'd have enough. Eventually we took our embryos to a clinic with a better reputation (the SART data can be very informative) and everything worked perfectly after that. We had two single embryo transfers, and each of those have led to two healthy children, no problems. Now we have these extra embryos, all genetically screened.
- Infertility diagnosis or N/A:
I was older when we decided to have kids, but IVF worked and I have every reason to believe our three genetically screened embryos are viable.
